Local plan for Malmö Industrial Park has been adopted

On 11 December a new local plan was adopted for the extension of Malmö Industrial Park, an area of 750,000 m2.

”A new local plan for the port area is an important step on the way to continued development of the port with operations which will create conditions for growth, employment and sustainable development”, says Milan Obradovic, Chair of the Technical Services Committee.

” Malmö Industrial Park’s strategic location and development are creating excellent prospects for the region and parts of Scandinavia’s trade and industry”, says Milan Obradovic

The plans for Malmö Industrial Park entail development of port-related activities, logistics- and warehouse operations, as well as manufacturing industry.

With a modern infrastructure, proximity to the road network, good access to land and significant environmental initiatives, Malmö offers opportunities for establishment of businesses with logistics linked to the port.

”Skanska has had a site reservation since September and we have several other interested parties in the pipeline with whom we are negotiating, both international and national companies”, says Klas Johansson, Real Estate Director at Malmö City Council.

”We are now looking forward to rolling out the project with construction starting during next year”, says Klas Johansson.

Malmö Industrial Park offers competitive rents with long contracts for central industrial sites which can be adapted for individual requirements. Joint solutions for energy supply, security, transportation, waste management and recycling deliver substantial savings.

Content of the plan

The aim of the 5203 local plan is to enable port-related businesses, logistics and warehousing operations, as well as manufacturing industry, to be established within the area. It will also be possible to establish service functions linked to these businesses.

The area is home to a large population of green toads, a protected species. The proposed plan has been adapted to take this into account, and a large area has been set aside as a nature reserve.
