Skanska reserves development site in Malmö Industrial Park

Skanska is one of the first companies to reserve a site in Malmö Industrial Park – the new industrial area which is being established in Northern Harbour in Malmö. The reservation is for approx. 35,000 square metres in the southern part of the industrial park.

Skanska is one of the world’s leading construction companies, operating within the fields of civil engineering and construction of buildings, as well as development of housing, commercial properties and infrastructure.  It is Skanska Fastigheter Göteborg AB that has reserved a site in Malmö Industrial Park. Uses for the approximately 35,000 square metre site will include a “Kubiklager”, a large warehouse space where Skanska will offer a range of businesses the opportunity to tailor their premises.

Industrial sites close to the port

Malmö Industrial Park is a new area which is now being made available for business premises. From 2014 companies will be offered centrally located industrial sites in direct connection to Northern Harbour in Malmö and with access to trimodal logistics solutions and modern infrastructure.

”Skanska’s “Kubiklager” is an operation which fits Malmö City’s plans for the industrial area in Northern Harbour. Buildings will be erected within the designated area for manufacturing, logistics and other businesses, and a collaboration with CMP (Copenhagen Malmö Port) will take place under specific conditions”, says Klas Johansson, Real Estate Director at Malmö City.

”We are planning to build about 15,000 – 20,000 square metres according to our warehouse concept, which offers different businesses the opportunity to tailor their premises with the focus on flexibility and length of contract. Northern Harbour in Malmö is a perfect logistics location, with port facilities and a well-developed infrastructure giving access to the European highways”, says Henrik Ahnström business area manager at Skanska Fastigheter Göteborg AB.

”Skanska’s reservation represents the start of the development of new businesses in Northern Harbour which can contribute to generating more jobs for Malmö and reinforcing the region’s attractiveness”, concludes Klas Johansson.

Strategic location

Skanska’s site reservation is valid until 2015-12-15. Prior to that, Skanska and the municipality have to conclude a contract of sale ratified by the Technical Services Committee no later than December 2015.

Malmö Industrial Park is expected to be fully developed by the mid-2020s, by which time the approximately 900,000 square metre area will be the base for international companies in a range of sectors which have made Malmö the hub for their operations. The Industrial Park’s strategic location makes it simple to adapt flows of goods to final destinations throughout the Baltic region.
